Granted, this makes a good-sized margarita, but it's damned good and I only have one once in a while. Scaling the IBA recipe (7:4:3) exactly, based on the volume of my margarita glasses, calls for 3.5 oz. My recipe, which I scaled to fit my pint-sized margarita glasses, actually uses less booze than the IBA standard recipe. I like the extra zing from the added lime juice. The only difference between the recipe I posted and the IBA version is mine uses 1/2 oz more lime juice and 1/2 oz less tequila. Take a look at the official International Bartenders Association IBA recipe here and do the math. I think I will have to try minus8dB's 3 Tequila : 2 Citrus : 1 Cointreau next. Maybe I need a different ratio? Simple syrup? Orange Juice? Agave? I've been working on trying to get this drink right for a while now, and its starting to hit my confidence a bit.ĮDIT: Thanks for the advice, I whipped up a 2:1:1 with a splash of agave nectar and found it a bit better, but still not quite there. I know there have been a number of posts here on margarita ratios, but I was wondering if anyone who uses Espolon/Cointreau could offer their own advice. I recently was at a craft-ish mexican restaurant where they were making some pretty good margaritas with Espolon Blanco and Cointreau (and fresh lime), so a few days ago I picked up a bottle of each and shook up two margaritas by DeGroff's (6:4:3) and Reagan's (3:2:1) ratios, but my results seemed nowhere close - a bit bitter and perhaps even bland. I'm somewhat new to mixing drinks and have been trying to mix a really "great" margarita, but haven't had much luck. /r/firewater (This one is for distillers!).We've put our favorite content on our wiki including a starter's guide to cocktails, best beginner's cocktail books, and the World Wide Bar Guide!
